Jan. 3rd, 2021 01:20 pmTitle: Time Crunch
Author: D.L.SchizoAuthoress
Rating: G
Spoilers: set in a vaguely preboot (1985-2011) universe
Warnings: none
Prompt/Fill: “How long will this take? I got to pick up my dog from the salon.”
Word Count: 302
Summary: A few moments in the day of a butler living in Gotham City.
Time Crunch
Alfred Pennyworth stepped back from the kerb, one arm swept to the side to usher a nearby small child back toward her mother. Moments later, a garishly painted vehicle came roaring down the roadway, heedless of any obstacles in its path.
A breath later, several motorcycles zipped by in pursuit. Alfred took a breath and said a silent prayer upon the sight of the small form crouched low on one motorcycle, cape snapping in the wind and alternately showing its black and its yellow sides. Other pedestrians shrieked and pressed close to the buildings or dodged down into alcoves, alleyways, or open doors.
The wail of police sirens finally sounded – for all the financial help that Alfred’s employer poured into the GCPD, it seemed that their fleet of vehicles was constantly being outstripped by the resources accessible by the criminal element.
Although where in the world the Killer Moth got the funds for his themed capers was a mystery to Alfred.
Alfred winced when a city bus swerved to avoid the Killer Moth’s custom car, and ended up on the sidewalk. Luckily, the pedestrians had cleared out of the area, but the bus smashed into a fireplug and sent a plume of high pressure water into the air. He hurried away in the opposite direction, grateful that he’d parked the car in one of the underground lots off the main thoroughfare.
This was going to ruin the timetable he’d drawn up for today’s errands, even if his youngest charge wouldn’t need to be picked up from school anymore. He only hoped that Titus would be well behaved while waiting at the groomers – though he dreaded how the large dog would sulk at Master Damian’s absence.
For everything else, he steadfastly refused to worry. Batgirl and Robin could handle Killer Moth.
